Mission 27 - Design & Production Notes

Timed Tactical Exercise

The goal of this third Timed Tactical Exercise is to give players another good training mission where they can fine-tune their accuracy, quick-thinking, and adaptability. With the clock ticking away, there is extra incentive to practice specific tactics and be as precise as possible. These two aspects of play help better your score.

It's a lot of fun creating a speed mission that simulates real combat. While the missions we've done with "dummy" targets - static plates and spinning plates - were interesting and dynamic, being able to place enemy targets throughout a mission, keeping in mind the player is going to be aiming for speed, presents a new challenge. A lot of thought goes into what, where, and how many.

As for the terrain or structures, they're not modeled after a specific locale but rather based on different areas of Iraq we have been recreating all along. The environment becomes an integral part of the mission and your strategy. For example, where we place a building affects your line of fire or your use of cover and concealment.

The developer of this particular map writes, "Man, it's going to be a great fun!" That's the first thing I said after I played the first dev version of it. It keeps you busy all the time, every step can be fatal, and there are a couple of different ways to finish the mission, even different routes. If you play in COOP, get a sniper team on the hill above the town suburbs. You'll thank them later!"
