Mission 64 - Design & Production Notes
Opium Wars

Opium Wars is designed to highlight the emergence of deadly new fighters joining enemy forces in the War on Terror in Afghanistan-local drug dealers. Opium pushers are found fighting alongside the Taliban in an effort to disrupt the security and stability of Afghanistan under its newly appointed government.

Opium production is a billon-dollar industry in Afghanistan, the second poorest nation in the world. Without the growth and distribution of opium, two million farmers and dealers would lose out on what is an incontestably lucrative business. The new government in Afghanistan has waged war on opium growers, and the drug pushers are fighting back using the most deadly weapon in the Middle East-the Taliban.

Though the skill and aptitude of drug dealers in warfare is largely unknown, their presence strengthens enemy forces by providing additional fighters to back the Taliban in large-scale missions such as the ambush in Helmand Province. It takes a lot of men to successfully overrun a convoy of 150 trained police officers. With the help of armed drug dealers, the Taliban manages to successfully disable the convoy, kill 20 men, and escape unscathed.
