Opium Wars

  • October 10, 2005:

    5:00 p.m.: A convoy of 150 Afghan Policemen travels the dirt road. As the police convoy passes the ravine, the Taliban and drug dealers attack the vehicles with RPGs and small-arms fire.

  • October 11, 2005:

    1:00 a.m.: The enemy forces flee the area and the fighting subsides.

    20 Afghan Police officers are dead, including Helmand's Deputy Police Chief. Five police vehicles lay destroyed, and a sixth vehicle is believed to have been seized by either the Taliban or the drug smugglers during the attack.
