Mission 4 - Chronology
Samarra Bank Heist, Part 2
November 30, 2003
11:00 a.m.
Allied forces securing the route for two currency convoys are hit with two roadside bombs. Two US soldiers are wounded, but the mission proceeds regardless. The first convoy proceeds west towards the Samarra Bank.
1:25 p.m.
The first convoy is attacked with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire outside Samarra Bank. Two US soldiers and one member of the exchange team are wounded as the currency transfer is carried out.
2:00 p.m. Now heading north and out of town, the first convoy gets ambushed again. Insurgents trap the convoy behind a barricade of cars and buses and launch another attack. In retaliation, US forces unleash a torrent of fire into the pre-targeted kill sack. They run over the barricade, literally crushing vehicles beneath the tank treads. The convoy reverses the ambush and kills dozens of Fedayeen and other loyalists.
2:22 p.m. Another allied convoy, not involved in the currency exchange, is attacked with small arms fire by four men in a black BMW. All four of the car’s occupants are wounded. Three AK-47s and two rocket-propelled grenades are recovered from the car.
