Desert Rat Tank Battle

Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank
Manufactured by BAE Systems, the Challenger 2 was first procured by Britain in 1991. Since then, the UK has supplied its regiments with nearly 400 of the highly advanced—and deadly—battle tanks.
The Challenger 2’s gun control is an all-electric stabilization system. Its Boeing 7.62mm chain gun is located to the left of the main tank gun, and the loader has a 7.62mm GPMG L37A2 anti-air machine gun mounted on the cupola. The commander’s station has a panoramic gyro-stabilized, laser rangefinder sight and eight periscopes for 360° vision. A Thermal Observation and Gunnery Sight II offers the crew precise night vision.
The tank is protected by Chobham armor, a secret composite speculated to be a combination of layered ceramic and steel-plated armor. Whatever the mix, the Challenger’s skin is designed to defeat high explosive anti-tank (HEAT) rounds. But the protection doesn’t stop there. Inside the Challenger 2’s turret bustle is a full nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) protection system.

T-55 Battle Tank
Introduced in 1958 and manufactured in the Soviet Union, the T-55 Battle Tank has a V-12 water-cooled diesel engine, and boasts 580 horsepower. The ever-reliable T-55 and its predecessor, the T-54, are the most produced battle tanks in history.
Most effective against light to medium armored vehicles, the T-55 is noted for its high-velocity gun and superior long-range endurance. The tank can ford depths of 1.4 meters of water without preparation, and the T-55 is equipped with a PAZ radiation detection system and an anti-radiation liner.
Heralded for 50 years of reliability on the battlefield, the T-55 is not the safest vehicle from which to fight. Its external fuel cells and thin armor protection make the T-55 more vulnerable than the modern weaponry of the Coalition.

Factoid: Because of the cramped conditions inside the early Russian tanks, automatic loaders were installed to keep the crews down to three instead of four. But the gunners routinely got their arms caught in the loader and ripped off, and production of the automatic loaders ceased.
