Mission 2 - Weapons and Vehicles
Operation Anaconda

AK-47 Kalashnikov rifle
Durable and widely available, the AK-47 is a Russian 7.62mm assault rifle. The AK fires 100 rounds per minute, even through extreme conditions: low temperatures, from moving vehicles and after being dunked in water, mud or sand.

5.56-millimeter M4 carbine with M203 grenade launcher
This weapon was designed as a shorter, lightweight alternative to the M16A2 rifle, to give soldiers the ability to engage the enemy with accurate, lethal fire at close quarters.

AT-4 disposable single-shot LAW
Designed to be a good one-person throwaway weapon to blast through an armored target with negligible recoil, the AT-4 rocket comes pre-packaged in a fiberglass launch tube.

RPG-7 rocket propelled grenade launcher
A shoulder-fired, muzzle-loaded, grenade launcher, the RPG-7 fires a variety of grenades from a 40-mm launch tube. It’s light enough to be fired by one person, but an assistant usually stands to the left of the gunner for protection.

M67 Fragmentation grenade
This is designed to be thrown about 40 meters and explode into fragments with a kill radius of 5 meters, and a casualty-producing radius of 15 meters.

RPK-74 Machine Gun
After the new AK-74 assault rifle entered service, the RPK-74 light machine gun was developed from the rifle.

M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) light machine gun
The SAW is a lightweight; gas-operated machine gun fed eight by a magazine or metallic link-belt that disintegrates. It's man-portable, and designed to combine a high volume of fire with accuracy almost equal to a rifle.

M24 sniper rifle
The M24, a bolt-action, six-shot repeater, was rolled out by the US Army in 1988. Its stock is made of Kevlar, graphite, and fiberglass, and a bipod can be attached for increased stability.

Barrett M82A1 (USA made) sniper rifle
The Barrett is a semi-automatic, air cooled, box-magazine-fed rifle chambered for the .50 M2 Browning Machine Gun cartridge. It operates on the short recoil principle, and works with a Unertl 10-power scope and an additional box magazine.

HMMWV M1036
The M1036 supports a Tube Launched, Optically Tracked, Wire-guided (TOW) anti-tank missile system, the primary anti-tank weapon used by the infantry.

HMMWV
An acronym for High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle, the Humvee is a four-wheel drive, diesel-powered automatic. Designed to run over any terrain and in all weather conditions, models can be armed with mounted machine guns, TOW or stinger missiles.

AH-64A Apache helicopter
Made by Boeing, the AH-64A Apache is a flying arsenal. Armed with a 30 mm chain gun, and a complement of Hydra rockets and Hellfire missiles, it’s capable of intense, close-quarter fighting, day or night, in practically all environments.

CH-47 Chinook
First sent to Vietnam in 1962, the twin-rotored Chinook has been the workhorse of the US Army for decades. With a maximum payload of 10,000 lbs., it’s designed to get troops, supplies, and ordnance to a battlefield.

MH-47E Chinook
When dropping Special Forces into a hot LZ, the Night Hawks of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment typically use small helicopters like the MH-6 or the AH-6 "Little Bird." But for a large-force insertion at long range, they rely on this modified version of the Chinook, equipped with aerial refueling capability and a fast-rope rappelling system.

AH-1W Super Cobra
Used for day or night, the Super Cobra is designed to escort a force of attack helicopters for a land or amphibious assault, and provide close fire support with its 20mm cannon and up to four rockets or missiles.

B-52H
The B-52 has provided the lion’s share of long-range bombing missions through all American wars since Vietnam, and provides the Air Force with its only Air Launched Cruise Missile platform - delivering up to 20 ALCM’s to a target if necessary.

B-2 Stealth Bomber
Most of the technology that makes the Stealth stealthy is classified. But the B-2’s unique shape, reminiscent of the "Flying Wing" developed in the 1950’s, gives it a low radar visibility.

F-16 Fighting Falcon
The Fighting Falcon combines high-maneuverability, low cost, a good combat radius, and compact design to make an excellent fighter for a variety of missions.

Mirage 2000 (France)
The Mirage 2000 has wings swept-back "delta" shape, with one turbofan engine mounted in the fuselage. With a state of the art radar and fire control system, it can hit multiple targets with laser-guided weapons, low-drag bombs, and Apache cruise missiles.

AC-130H Spectre gunship
With two 20mm Vulcan cannons, one 40mm Bofors cannon, and a 105mm Howitzer, the Spectre is designed to deliver a withering hail of gunfire to a target with pinpoint accuracy to support ground operations.

RQ-1 Predator
The Predator is a medium altitude UAV designed to loiter near a target and provide surveillance for more than 24 hours at time.

P-3 Orion
The Orion is a long-range anti-submarine warfare patrol aircraft, with a capability of carrying Harpoon anti-surface missiles, MK-50 torpedos and the MK-60 mine.

A-10 Thunderbolt
Its blunt-nosed, ugly appearance gives it the nickname "Warthog," but the A-10 gets the job done - actually two jobs, forward air controller duty, and providing close air support against armored targets.
