Mission 6 - Production Notes
Fallujah Police Station Raid

"Put yourself in the shoes of an Iraqi policeman. This is the supreme gut-check. Do you believe in what you are doing? You have a split second to make a choice. Do you hide, join the insurgents, beg for mercy? Or do you fight the last fight you may ever have?"
- Staff Sergeant Dan Snyder

The police station raid is a besieged mission, meaning there is a siege and you're on the inside. When insurgents stormed the building on the morning of February 12, 2004, they caught the officers inside completely off-guard. Many of their colleagues were out attending to what turned out to be an intentional false alarm, so force numbers were low. This is the scenario you face as the mission starts. We created the feeling of being in the middle of something you never saw coming.

With all of the recent news coverage of events unfolding in Fallujah, we were able to gather a plethora of images and data of the city itself to recreate it. If you are looking at the police station from the street in this mission, you will notice how much the building looks like the photographs and video footage from the day the event took place. We also captured the gritty street scenes of Fallujah using texture maps which are pretty rough and dirty.

Immersing yourself in this mission means experiencing what it feels like to be overrun, outmanned, and outgunned. When the police were routed, they had little choice and were forced to either scatter and flee or die. The 2-man team format in this mission simulates what happened when attacking insurgents forced police to break rank and fend for themselves. The enemy will come at you here in unrelenting waves, firing incessantly. You are in tight quarters with limited maneuverability and nowhere to run. It's a claustrophobic, challenging experience, and staying alive for any significant length of time when you first attempt the mission is difficult.

And finally, this mission gives you roof access for the first time. If you have played Kuma\War before, you know how often you can be harassed by rooftop assailants. Fallujah residents use their rooftops as a locale to go to beat the heat. You'll take a different kind of heat when you get up there, so be prepared.
